โก๏ธ๐บ๐ธ๐ฑ Meta will pay up to 17.1 billion dollars to settle the lawsuit filed by 47 U.S. states that accused Facebook and Instagram of using mechanisms designed to create addiction among children and adolescents.
๐ปThe agreement requires substantial changes to the platforms for minor users, including a default two-hour daily limit, blocking use between midnight and 6 a.m., and stopping notifications during school hours. Age verification and parental controls will also be strengthened, and likes and reactions will be hidden by default.
๐ปMeta will pay about 12.7 billion dollars over ten years. An additional 5 billion will be due if TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube also accept similar measures and sanctions. The company, however, continues to deny having committed wrongdoing.
