⚡️🇮🇹🚨 An investigation conducted by the Bari Anti-Mafia District Directorate documented the illegal disposal of 3,500 tonnes of waste in Apulia over two and a half years of activity, carried out by Salerno-based criminal organizations and Cerignola.
🔻The phenomenon involves 64 sites and 126 episodes of illicit dumping, mainly concentrated in the provinces of Foggia and Barletta-Andria-Trani, affecting sensitive areas such as the Tavoliere delle Puglie countryside, the Alta Murgia National Park, and private agricultural land.
🔻The investigations were triggered by citizen complaints, tired of "breathing poison," and by reports of illicit waste deposits in Cerignola, reported by city officials and forest police starting in April 2022.
🔻The inquiry led to the adoption of 19 precautionary measures, the registration of 30 suspects, and the opening of proceedings against 16 companies in the sector, with over 132 charges.
